The University of Tokyo established the Center for Space Resources and Innovation (CSRI) on 1 October 2025. Directed by Professor Hideaki Miyamoto, the centre connects university departments around the scientific, technological and institutional foundations of space resources.

Space-resource development activities begin at the SX R&D site
The University of Tokyo held a kickoff meeting on 28 May 2025 for its space-resource development site for lunar development, selected under the Space Strategy Fund’s SX R&D programme. Professor Hideaki Miyamoto leads the project.
