Our laboratory provides planetary surface regolith simulants, either free of charge or for a fee, depending on the intended use and requested quantity.

We currently offer four types of simulants that reproduce the surface materials of the lunar mare, the lunar highlands, Phobos, and Mars. All of these are provided in a simplified version as standard.

Whether the simulant can be provided free of charge or on a paid basis will be determined based on the requested amount and the purpose of use. Please feel free to contact us for further details.

When making an inquiry, please contact our laboratory at info@seed.um.u-tokyo.ac.jp and include the following four items:

  1. Name (and organization name, if applicable)
  2. Type of simulant requested (lunar mare, lunar highlands, Phobos, or Mars)
  3. Requested quantity
  4. Intended use (for example, personal display, museum exhibition, or experiments at a research institution)

Please note that redistribution or resale of simulants provided by our laboratory to third parties is strictly prohibited.

For paid provision, the standard prices for the simplified simulants are as follows (tax included). Prices may vary if modifications to the simulant specifications are requested or if an additional quality assurance certificate is required to guarantee product quality.

  • Moon (mare regions): 5,000,000 JPY per ton
  • Moon (highland regions): 5,000,000 JPY per ton
  • Mars: 5,000,000 JPY per ton
  • Phobos: 7,500,000 JPY per ton

Please also be advised that, depending on material availability and production conditions, shipment may take approximately one month. For large-volume orders, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the delivery schedule on a case-by-case basis.
